He started with drama in his home town, Ondo, when he got to Lagos, Ayin-o Olasunkanmi Owoeye delved into music fully and he has been able to carve a niche for himself through his praise and worship songs. Excerpt.
How it all started
My name is Ayin-0-Olasunkanmi Owoeye, I am a gospel act, my sojourn in music started as a choir in the church, and in 2004 I took music professionally.
That year 2004 was when I produced my first album titled O-gbeni-nija, in 2008 I did another one titled Ojo Aanu, shower of grace. That album was my breaking point. It really gave me the little stardom I enjoy today. The album was well spread amongst Christians. Now I have just released another album titled Ijo Oba.
What is the chain of distributorship as regards all these albums you mentioned?
The major problem artist is saddled with in Nigeria is promotion of music, this is not even peculiar to Nigeria alone almost every part of the world. Music promoters prefer doing business with star artistes than the upcoming ones. This and other challenges are what musicians are confronted with.
But on my own I was able to channel a course to get my album across. When I released Ojo Aanu, with the little help from Sarolaj Music boss, Tunji Sarumi, I was able to record success.
Ijo Oba (Royal Dance) my new release surpasses my previous album. The song; the lyrics; pictures quality and the technical aspect of the video made it better than what I did earlier.

My take on music as an enterprise in Nigeria
Music is a lucrative business in Nigeria for people who could endure and persevere. Music isn’t a profession meant for every dick and harry, it is a call by God. Those that are successful today must have been called. With the call, one needs to exercise patient while the stardom comes!
My music: God called me!
I never trained under anyone. I could categorically say that I was called into music by God. I was once a serious theatre person. I was a good dancer with great talent in stage acting. I was well known in Ondo my native town as an actor. I was well known in most schools in the town and other adjunct towns for my proficiency in theatre act.
When I arrived Lagos in 1994, I joined a church, Love of Christ Chapel Int’l headed by Pa Olowoporoku, I am still with the church. Like I said, I never trained as a musician under anybody, but I got my evangelism training under Pa Olowoporoku. This has really helped my musical career. I am a gospel artist and also an evangelist that works in the vineyard of God.
What makes me different from others!
There are places I cannot go as a man of God for musical performance. I cannot be seen everywhere because of my call.
This is an important notice to all that sings gospel. You don’t go everywhere you are invited to. An anointed gospel act needs to be reserved and be seen as pious and holy. You need to be selective and cautious of what you do, what you sing, what you say and where you go once you claimed to be a gospel singer either Christian or Islamic musician. Carefulness in all your deeds is very essential.
My brief stay with ANTP members
When I arrived in Lagos in 1994, I used to be a member with the Otolo group at Fadeyi. I was a good dancer in the group and I did shoot many movies with them, Okada Man was one of the movies we shot and many more. I left when I discovered I could get estranged from God! Today, I still practice theatre but in a gospel way!
Soon, I will come out with different gospel movie. We are working on that seriously and people will feel me wholly in the gospel entertainment world.
Other way we reach out to people
Another way we reach out to people is through our monthly programme tagged Adorable King. It’s all about praising and worshiping God in another dimension. With this, a lot could be gotten from God and people that have attended the programme have good testimonies to share.
Why I don’t invite top shots in gospel world
I have never invited any top shots amongst gospel act to the Praise and worship programme. The reason is a very clear one. How many amongst the top short can really praise God with their music. Many out there don’t understand the difference between praise\ worship songs and ordinary songs they called gospel. Not all gospel singers are Praise singer. The likes of Ojo Ade; Niyi Adedokun are great music legend that have done well with their type of music. Today, many out there that claimed to be stars in gospel music are not really God’s Praise singer, it is a fact! Many out there sing for survival not for God, this is the real fact!
