K1 Opens up: I Was Packer in Barrister's Band, I Used to Iron His Military Uniform

Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde was born Wasiu Omogbolahan Anifowose in1957 in Lagos and he started his music career as a packer under the late fuji creator Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. That was when Barrister himself was a military officer and a part time musician and Wasiu was living with him.

K1 in an interview confirmed he was the one ironing his military uniform while staying with him, however, while working as a packer, young Wasiu had a fantastic musical talent that he'll sing all the songs composed by the band from start to finish without missing a line to the amazement of everyone, though not with the best voice in the world.
He started experimenting his musical talent by playing the Were music during the month of Ramadan in Lagos in the 70s and won the were competition many times. He left Ayinde Barrister group to form his own band in the late 70s and called the band Prince Wasiu Ayinde Barrister and his progressive Talazo fuji messiah and nicknamed himself "Karuwa Minister"
He released his first album in 1981 and titled it "Iba Agba" where he paid homage to his mentor Ayinde Barrister and others. He released the hit album "Tala 84" in 1984 and that album brought him to limelight. Ever since he has been producing arguably the greatest run of hit albums. Every album produced has been expansive, experimental, thickly larded with indelible hits. His live shows were spectacular.
His story cannot be complete without the mention of the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji whose Baba Laje records labels bankrolled his first set of albums in the beginning of his career. He received many awards in music and was given the title "Olu omo" of Lagos (The golden child) by the late Oba of Lagos, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan in 1999.
Ayinde remains the toast of Nigerians of all different age groups, playing for university students, socialists, royalties, politicians and most recently he plays at the inauguration of the federal government of Nigeria under the new administration of All Progressive Congress, APC as well as the wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari.
He has now resumed his mentors role as the King of Fuji and continue to update his fuji music by incorporating western instruments such as saxophone, keyboards, electric guitar etc.
