I CANT NEVER DIRECT A MOVIE-FEMI ADEBAYO

Femi Adebayo, actor, producer, writer, and son of veteran actor Adebayo Salami aka Oga Bello says it’s a bit challenging directing, writing, producing and acting in the same movie.
The Yoruba star actor who is a father of three stated that he does not see himself directing a movie any time soon.
According to him in a recent chat on HIP TV; “I need to stay within my comfort zone which is acting and producing. Directing is a bulky job; I feel it’s more challenging. I feel more comfortable as an actor”
Femi who also seemed unfazed by the trend in the movie industry where the same person plays the lead role, produce, sometimes serve as director and script writer, explained that assuming the role of a director with other major responsibilities in a movie involves too much work and one won’t get the job done right.
Commenting further on the controversial issue of cross-over of Yoruba actors to the English genre, the celebrity actor answered bluntly;
“The reason is quite obvious. If you are a Yoruba Movie Actor and you can’t speak or communicate in English, it’s hard for you to be part of an English movie production. I can’t invite you to play a character in a Yoruba movie, when you can’t even speak Yoruba except we create a special character for a non-Yoruba speaking cast on set”
He cited tribalism and the general belief that Igbos were the dominant producers of English films as major hindrances in the movie industry until recently. He said recent collaboration between Yoruba and igbo producers is a reflection of the new development in the industry.
The actor whose celebrity status is due to his involvement in the movie business sadly does not see a retirement plan in acting. This is what he had to say with regard to that; “I was called to the Nigerian bar in 2003 and I practiced law for 2years before calling it quits for acting. Practicing law was a fulfillment for me because I’ve always loved to be a lawyer. So I don’t see myself standing in the law court anymore. I rather see myself in the four walls of a classroom as a lecturer; I have a master’s degree in law and am about to enrol for my PHD in law programme. That’s my fall back plan.”
